COVID-19 paused travel almost overnight. Our users were overwhelmingly independent contractors — without the support networks larger agencies have — and finding ways to keep them productive while travel itself was on hold became the team's focus.

Discovery

An earlier experiment, "Marketing Profiles," gave agents a dedicated page listing their experience and sample itineraries — a virtual business card easy to share and post on social media. It was built as an MVP to gauge interest in new features agents could use during the travel lull.

Exploration

Following the release of Marketing Profiles, I ran user interviews with travel agents to understand what business goals it satisfied, where it fell short, and what else agents used alongside it — including whether they already had a website. The response to Marketing Profiles was positive, but agents generally felt it lacked the features to fully replace their existing sites. That gap became the brief for a full Website Builder.

Implementation

Travelers already have plenty of website builders to choose from. Striking the balance between creative freedom and ease of use became the key design problem — solved by building themes made of swappable components: building blocks agents could mix, match, and fill with their own content, backed by multiple rounds of user interviews and testing to shape the final set.

Dragging a new element into place in the Travefy website builder

The builder in action — dragging a new component onto the page.

Five themes shipped at launch, each restyling the same underlying components for a different brand feel:

Figma → Storybook → Dev implementation → QA approval

I worked through that full pipeline — not just handing off designs, but carrying components into build and QA to make sure what shipped matched what was designed.
